The remedy is what the EU Commission has started doing
It's brilliant what the EU has started. What new computer people have been doing is growing up on a backwards system - kind of like learning an ancient and outdated spoken language - with the "big idea" being that they must learn Microsoft because Microsoft must have "growth". Microsoft may have enabled "me too" types to pass themselves off as computer professionals for a while, but those who don't keep up to date / only know Windows are becoming an expensive liability to their employers these days. The really amusing thing in recent years has been the amount of horse manure we've heard coming out of Redmond.

Free software is like a tree growing over a barbed wire fence.
Tough luck Microsoft, you can't have it. Ha ha ha.
