U.S. defends Microsoft remedy at international meet

The remedy

has been working. To apply, as said, draconian remedies could very well backfire and create complacency in the market. It can be argued that forcing parity among entities tends to breed a certain mediocrity that did not exist previously. Right now EU OEMs are working hard, in fact they are trying to push into US markets when they've not even solidified a significant base in the EU. They are driving their businesses in the face of mightier competition and making ground. Tiny, a company from England has moved into California and other surrounding markets. They are also becoming popular at home at a reasonable clip. They are diffentiating themselves from the Dells and HPs of the world with their offerings and succeeding. However, look at the companies like Tiny and you'll see they are offering Windows as part of the their business model. So for the EU and it's commissioned entities to claim the US market is not playing fair loses some of it's air when you only need look to their own companies to see similar practices.

For 10 years there was no PC manufacturers in the EU attempting to compete. I'm not convinced that American business practices are wholly to blame for it. Most markets have dominant players but it rarely stops aggressive and determined startups form competing. Look at the networking gear companies that have risen in the face of Cisco or for that matter, Google who had a word of mouth search engine and really nothing more and now diminishes established companies like Yahoo.


I guess we'll just have to see how it turns out.
