Steve Case had a clue, Time Warner does not! - that's why they ousted him..
I think Steve Case was the only who had a clue. The merger didn't fail because of Steve Case. It failed because the dot-com bubble bursted.

I'm also of the opinion that everything started going downhill the moment Time Warner execs kicked Steve Case out... he was one of the few who had a strategy and wanted to purse the "challenge Microsoft" angle, via its investment in Mozilla.org, moving AOL subscribers to the Gecko html engine, etc. In short: cut the ties to Microsoft's products...

Did you know there IS an AOL client for Linux, afaik created by some fellows in Japan, code-named Gamera, designed 6 years ago (it came bundled with Gateway's Connected Touchpad internet appliance which ran on top of Linux / Mozilla Gecko HTML engine), yet AOL management decided to sit on top of it and do nothing? It could have been the AOL client of choice bundled with Linspire, SuSE, etc...

It's all water under the bridge now...

Of course, you don't have to agree with me.
