Every police state in history...
... was justified--sometimes sincerely, sometimes cynically--on the basis of "national security." While I'll give Mr McConnell the benefit of the doubt and assume his intentions truly are to protect the country, the country he's "protecting" isn't the one the authors of the Bill of Rights had in mind.

You don't protect "the land of the free" by abolishing freedom.
