The long tail makes sense in some ways
For my own eclectic needs finding an intellectual ghetto, where I only hear what I want to hear and see what I want to see does not add to true discourse. If who I am and what my interests are do not fit into any one niche then I will not find any of these appealing as I have more needs than having one sliver of an interest covered.

The fragmentation of who we are creates a smaller and smaller sense of community, while I felt that the ability of creating a larger interactive community, where diversity is seen and experienced is a more important goal for expanding communities and becoming a more generally informed society.
