Advertising effectiveness
Advertising is a downward spiral. We get bombarded by so many ads today that ads aren't doing what they are meant to. I see so many ads in a day that my brain just tosses it a side. I can remember and ad but not what it's point is.

Here's an example. I got a consumer survey request on the phone. I was bored so I did and it was like 30 minutes on the phone. The asked me about ads I've seen for tons or products. The funny thing was they had all these questions on the ads and I found I could answer them. They ask if saw ad X and they described it. I would recognize the description but I couldn't answer what they were selling. Like the one one where the exterminator tosses money on the floor and says "You've go bankers, I could put out traps but you're better off at switching". I thought the comercial was funny but what were they selling. Should I switch to another bank, better interst rates, more services what and who? I couldn't answer, I had no idea but I sure remember the description of the comercial. The funny thing was the surveyor was very frustrated by this by this and she explained she wasn't frustrated by me but that the fact that no one was able to answer the questions and she was expected to have those fields filled. I think they, the advertisers, should take a hard look and the effects said advertising is having.

I also read a study that said most, not advertising, is ineffectual. Local advertising works but the big corporate ads don't. What the big corporations have is problem. The can't not advertising. The study found that one advertising corporation really got it's message out but when the competition advertises they negat the messages of each other. So you get a situation with too many messages and your brain tunes them all out as you don't want to wiegh each one. It's just easier to ignore all the messages at subconscious level. So this creates a situation where big corporations only benifit from advertising in a negative manner in that they are drowning out the competitions messages.

Every once in a while though a clever comercial or ad comes through that catches our attention. Problem is is that even working. By that survey I took, it sounds like it's not.

So the more ads put out the more we ignore them and less effective advertising becomes.

One thing the article said was maybe advertising might decrease on TV. The networks have experimented with commercial free shows sponsored by car companies. Take Heroes as an example of that. That was hinted at in the article I read several years back.
