China: Net spy damage has been 'massive'

I'm under the impression that the Communist Party Central School is for the purpose of training party functionaries and that those selected to attend have about as much choice as to whether or not to do so as members of the US armed services have as to whether or not to accept officially prescribed training (and that they pay about the same amount of money for the privilege). I've also long suspected that an offer to join the Communist Party in China is not a safe one to decline (people might doubt your loyalty to the regime).

At least those who can afford it and get accepted have a choice as to whether or not they attend Harvard or Yale (or whether to attend any college at all). Seems to me also that if the powers that be were really interested in using institutions of higher learning as a means of reinforcing established political doctrines, they'd do a better job of screening the professors. After all, we have profs at state-supported universities openly advocating the abolition of those very same institutions in the name of Libertarianism (I doubt this happens in mainland China).
