Laff I don't think they have much choice in the matter.
I mean they are licensing other people's property. When you have ownership, you have the power or the driver's seat. The studios could legally cut Apple off and the iPod is a lame duck. Or just another hardware player. I believe this is all just posturing on Job's part, (play to the base) and it will be resolved. If Jobs does step up the heat, he will be nailed.

But if you think Jobs is invulnerable, you are sadly mistaken. He will have a pretty player but no iTunes store and it will lose a lot of integration convenience. There are other hardware players to sell to including the orphaned iPod (no iTune store integration). He will negotiate but he has to put on a, "I am with you show" to his customers. Then blame the studio for the higher prices later on. Then at a later date he cannot be accused of just going along with the studios.
