Advertising works when...

A lot has been published on both sides of this but the truth is when done correctly advertising works. Just look at McDonalds, they thought that advertsing was not important and cut way back. It wasn't long before their profits stopped and they reported their first loss in years. What is McDonalds doing again? Lots of advertising. You may not remember the ad but seeing their message and logo over and over and over leaves an impression.

Companies are not trying to put their logo everywhere because it doesn't work, they are doing it because it is more affective.

There was a comment about a small shift as the result of advertising. When you are in a multi-billion dollar market you only need 1% of consumers to react to an advertisement to create a significant profit.

There is no question that the internet is full of advertising clutter, but the only alternative to free advertised sites is paid subscription sites. Really the choice is out there today for most media. The concept of free never really existed.
