If I had to pay...
I probably wouldnt bother.

I used to go into shops and browse through magazines to see if there was a good article to buy. One day, the owner of the store told me "This isnt a library, you know. Either you buy it or leave."

So I left, and I've never been back to that store. Now, I used to go in there from time to time, and I used to buy the odd thing here and there. But I refuse to buy a magazine when I dont even know whats in it.

Just like I wont buy a car without a test drive.

So whats the point? Well, theres a point to which you can push consumers, and a lot of this talk about "stolen revenue" is unrealistic. As in the example above, my browsing of the magazine would have counted as stolen revenue if I hadnt bought it, but knowing that I would HAVE to buy it upon browsing, I simply wont bother to pick it up in the first place.

I actually wonder how much the various businesses are being hurt by their insistence that consumers have to pay for each and every iteration of using the material?

I personally cant remember the last time I went into a shop to buy a magazine or paper, as there is plenty of material freely available on the web these days, by common posters, who dont want to be paid.

Frankly, if your material was any good, you'd make money out of it yourself, and not rely on someone else to come along and generate business for you, to then go and steal the credit for their marketing skills.
