Another reason that wasn't mentioned for an old married guy to be on Facebook... getting dragged into it two months ago by young relatives (in my case, two teenage girls).
Rather different though than an old guy sending friend invitations to completely unknown teenage girls!
They also got my wife to get signed up, and she has since gotten reconnected via Facebook with a relative of hers who's in another country.
