- From: the icky old guy

I am a 42 year old computer professional. I have a daughter who is in this age group and I have several things I would like to comment on.
1) Surprised at how many teenage girls take the time to read zdnet.
2) They should know better than to make their pictures and personal information available to anyone there by attracting pervs.
3) My daughter thinks it is pretty sad I have no friends on Facebook
4) She chastised my settings to not allow anyone to see my profile unless they were already my friend. It went something like this. her,"How do you expect to make friends if all your stuff is private?" me,"I will pick and choose my friends carefully just as I do in real life. I plan to not be the victim of identity theft or some psycho that thinks they know me because they became my friend on Facebook or Myspace." her,"Oh, excuse me while I make some changes to my profile."
5) Not all old married guys on Facebook are pervs. Some are into technology and want to see how it works and what the younger generations fascination is with these seemingly pointless networks.
6)Agreed, red flags should go up when an old married guy wants to be friends with a teenage girl. Much the same as you would in real life.
7) I also teach self defense, the same rules apply online that apply in the real world.
8) Online, applications are not the exclusive realm of hip young people that want to expose their personal lives to the world in order to gain new "friends."
9) Always be cautious online or in real life about the friends that you pick young or old married or not pervs come in all shapes and sizes.
10)I will probably remain friendless in cyberspace until more people from my generation find a good reason to join social networks and although my teenage daughters will continue to feel sorry for they still will not be my friend. - Posted by: jabosway Posted on: 08/15/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
