"Where is the fairness in that? "

Ah... that's your problem. You proceed from the fundatmentally incorrect assumption that this has anything to do with fairness. Whether it's TLC in the modern era, or the chuck berrys and james browns from rock and roll's golden age, the recording industry has demonstrated year, after year, after year, that they are not concerned with fairness, the artists, or the consumers.

Their ONLY concern is how much money they can take from both the artist and the consumer to fill their own talentless pockets. period.

The only bright spot is-- that much like a chicken still running around after it's head is chopped off, all this frantic activity by the music industry indicates that they are in their last days. They just arent necessary anymore. The recording "industry" developed due to the extraordinary expense involved in bringing music from the artist to the masses. That's no longer an obstacle. Fairly soon, artists will be creating music and publishing it directly to their own web sites for purchase and or download. And with the money flowing from the consumer directly to the artist, the per song price can be drastically reduced and still keep the artists comfortable and happy.

I can't wait for the day....
