- One from the old man...
- Anyone remember using MFM or ESDI drives? I think the advent of the IDE drive has spurred a lot of computer innovation. As the drive capacities grew, so did the available space to store larger and larger programs. My first PC was a Tandy 1000SL (Radio Shack!!) that had an 8088 processor and no hard drive. I added an MFM drive to it - 20MB!! Nowadays, you can't find a USB flash key that small! I later updraded to a 486 that had a 170MB IDE drive in it - I was in Hog Heaven! (I have another USB flash key at my desk now that is bigger than that). But IDE has led to the advent of SATA and SATA II, with drive sizes in the Terabyte range - imagine the monster size programs you can store on that!!
