In the dark
I guess this is what happens when a group of people is so highly controlled for so long, and then the flood gates are opened for things thing, and ideas that they have not seen, or been allowed to think about before. (and that is a really long sentence.) People in the States forget that the internet has only been available to the people of China for a short time in comparison with the rest of the world.
Add to extra outside influences the fact that there is no type of sex education known in most provinces to dissuade the teens, or even adults about proper responsibilities of sexual contact. Just saying "Just don't do it" does not count.
Next thing there will be reports of disco and white polyester suits in China. Evolution of a society that has been in a sociological lock is all that I see.
