So how exactly do they propose to know my gender?
There's nothing in HTTP that would tell them. They can't trace it to my IP address, since it's going to be shared (even if it was static, my wife and I would both use it). I may come to their web site first thing, with my cache empty (which they shouldn't be able to access). I'm not going to log in and customize preferences. I may have killed my cookies before I started surfing. It seems like for most people, there's not going to be any way to tell which gender they are. I'll be curious to see how they propose to be able to tell.
