that they would have to complain about. And yes there is a function called "locate" that finds files through a database search (I hate generically calling that a "desktop search", because I know where my desktop is, and if I didn't I wouldn't be able to find the "desktop search" program anyway). Of course that's a CLI command, but there are a plethora of GUI front ends for "locate", or if not a direct front end then at least it uses the same database to do its searches. And yes, there is a daily cron job to refresh this database, so Google would have the same issues with this database powered file search as it would with Windows Search. And the simple solution is the same as well, or at least similar, which would be to give the end use the option to disable the default, although rather than stopping a service you'd be stopping a cron job. But both are easy enough to do form a technical standpoint, although you would need admin access to do either, which is a good thing.
