Safari is ALL about the iPhone
Apple doesn't care about browser market share. Apple doesn't make money on
Safari. Apple stands to make BIG money on the iPhone. The iPhone uses Safari
which is standards based. Firefox and especially IE are not standards compliant. If
a lot of people use Safari, then "crappy IE only Web development" will become very
rare. Apple wants to bring the internet to iPhone which uses Safari. If you're a
Windows user and you try out Safari, you're half way to an iPhone. The other half
involves giving Apple a lot of your money. I know Apple will make a bundle on the
iPhone because it is the most touted product since Windows 95 and Windows 95
cleaned up by offering Mac-like experience on a PC. I remember the excitement of
a guy who bought a Windows 95 PC and maxed it out with RAM (RAM was very
expensive then). When he was describing the experience, he would say, "You know
what I'm talking about you use a Mac." Apple hopes to gain that same excitement
by bringing a Mac-like experience to the iPhone. The iPhone already has changed
the industry. Look at how many knockoffs are already coming out, looking to
capitalize on the success.

This "duopolistic" plan is pure reaction by a worried Firefox exec. A lot of Mac
users use Safari and Firefox. The introduction of Safari for Windows will give more
browser options for Windows users and place a more important focus on
"standards based web development." one of the few reasons I use Parallels on my
Mac is to access the one or two IE only sites that I have to occasionally go to.
