As usual
shawkins:

As usual, DonnieBoy has his head stuck in his exhaust port, and he's spewing what usually comes out of that port. But then, that's all he can actually do.

You are only fooling yourself when you state that MS shouldn't have a hand in defining standards. If you looked at it with equanimity, you would have to say that neither Apple nor the Linux community should have a hand in defining standards. But doing that would destroy your argument.

Like it or not, IE *is* a standard, and those people who choose to program and arrange their web pages to support or even cater to it are doing that by choice, not because Microsoft is "forcing" them to do so. The same thing goes for FireFox, or even Safari.

And no, Safari (or at least the Windows version of it) doesn't comply with "standards". If it did, it would comply with the Windows display APIs, and work consistently with the display requirements. It doesn't. If you maximize the browser, and happen to have set your toolbar to be hidden, you cannot access the toolbar or the Start button. Safari literally takes over the entire desktop. Chances are that on a Mac, both the Menu bar and the Dock are accessible.

Perhaps it will some day. But then, that would require Apple to re-engineer a less-than stellar browser that will have minimal usage on a competitor's platform.

As for Safari's ability (or potential promise) to lead PC users to the Mac community (as a certain Boy who wears Leopard-spotted ******* has claimed), if Safari is an example of the quality "experience" that a user gets with a Mac, there will be few people willing to trade in their PCs.

If Steve Jobs truly *is* serious in his belief that Safari can take over the portion of the browser "market" that IE doesn't already have, it's only because he's succumbed to the effects of his own Reality Distortion Field.
