Trading Freedom for Security - always a Bad Idea
The country is racing towards totalitarianism as fast as it can on this issue. No one likes crime and everyone wants to keep the vulnerable safe. But stripping entire classes of people of their rights pre-emptively is wrong. Once suspension of certain civil rights is allowed for one feared and hated group, it is inevitable that law enforcement and other pressure groups will agitate to apply the precedent to other groups.

It was wrong when it was done to the Jews in Nazi Germany, to the Japanese in WWII; it was wrong when it was done to the "Commie Sympathizers" in the 1950s, and it is wrong to do it to people who have paid their debt to society after committing an offense of any kind.
