While it's true that Columbus unintentionally found the Americas, he still used 'landmarks' (in the form of celestial bodies) to verify he was continuing a westerly heading in his search for a shorter trade route to India. He was far from lost, if you consider his objective of heading west until he found land. He was, however, mistaken in his belief that he'd found India when he arrived at said landfall. There's a difference.
It doesn't seem to me "like Google is interested in compiling data on everyone," and I'm sure you have a special name reserved for me for that belief. Google is not taking these shots in an attempt to get an online record of everyone's picture. (Not to mention that this would be such a monumental task that their intent would be clear very early in the project.) They're taking these shots in an attempt to capture landmarks and points of interest, nothing more. Hardly fodder for conspiracy theories.
As to the name calling, I'm sure you're proud of the fact that you provided a wonderful example of how to post while restraining from responding in kind. - Posted by: Zeppo9191 Posted on: 05/31/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
