Oh boy...
Education is the biggest and first step with guns. The only gun control I believe in is keeping a hard focus on the front sight as I press the trigger to place all rounds on target.

Take away guns and people will still kill with bats, knives, swords and even their bare hands. One of the reasons we have a "gun problem" in this nation is hollystupid and their glamorizing the use of guns. Another is basic gun safety is no longer being taught. Too many uptight liberals nut jobs that are afraid of a piece of plastic and steel. An inanimate object that does nothing without human interaction.

Now the camera issue... this is getting on the level of George Orwell. And people seem to be okay with it. This is but one more step towards removing bits and pieces of the Constitution. The ability to move freely about the country secure in your person, with all this video surveillance that right is going away. Soon the Real ID will be back on the docket and eventually it will pass. And when it does, you will need to show your ID in order to move about or live in the land of the free. Hmmm doesn't sound so free to me anymore. Sounds more like the land of the paranoid and terrified.

And back to guns, guns in the hands of private citizens are what slow this erosion of our nation down. It is also a major reason why a full scale invasion has never happened and most likely never will. Let us look at history... Nazi Germany invaded Finland, Sweden and Norway... these citizens were armed. Now granted they were occupied by the Nazi Germans, but the daily cost to the German military was adding up. Because private citizens were fighting back using guerrilla tactics. Ironically these Nordic states still have pretty liberal gun laws, so much so that many homes in Sweden (if I remember correctly) have fully automatic weapons. And yet you don't see the problems we have here, over there. Might have something to do with maturity of their nation. Israel is another gun state, and look at their crime rates... oh wait they really don't have any.

Look at Washington DC and what happened when gun laws got tighter... then look at Texas where the right to open carry exists. Much lower crime rates. You may not like guns and that is fine, but don't infringe on my rights to own them either. I was raised around them and I still remember the first time I fire one at age 7. And from as far back as I can remember I can also remember my dad drilling safety and proper handling of fire arms into my head before I was even allowed to touch a gun. I did the same with my children (much to the dislike of my wife, but she at least understands why) and by doing so, I have shot proofed my children. They know guns are not toys and they are never to handle them without adult supervision. And I have many in the house and the children all know where they are and that they exist. I don't hide it from them. And if they don't want to shoot, that's fine. But at least they know how to PROPERLY handle a firearm.

But the other point I am out to make is, while I see some of the pros and many of the cons to these surveillance cameras, I don't feel there is a true need for them. It's an invitation to abuse power by the authorities. It's about setting up a police state infrastructure where the idea of freedom can eventually be quelled. Is this the America you want to live in? A state of paranoia and under surveillance at all times? Because eventually the cameras will start to move into the office then your homes. Then what will you do when you no longer have privacy? What will you do when the cameras are connected to a central computing system that looks for behavior not authorized and reports you? Think it's far fetched... better take a look at how far facial recognition technology has come.

George Orwell was right... he just has the year wrong. There has to be a limit to what you will tolerate... I have reached mine some time ago. And I write my congressman and senators and express my unhappiness with how this nation is going. I vote against bills that I believe can be abused and misused against the free people of this state and nation. When will you and the others stand and use the system as it was intended and use the power to vote and the education you received to write to stop the stupidity before it can truly take root?

Gun control is just another fascist tactic and doesn't work. It disarms the law abiding citizen. Surveillance cameras do not keep you safer, they only intrude on your privacy and can be misused to misrepresent you and your actions. I don't need the government to take care of me and every issue of my daily life, and neither do you. devil
