Laff: simple economics
Most economists will tell you "IF" you can OWN don't rent.

Since you admit that you don't want to watch the same movies over and over again, I assume that you don't buy DVDs, you either rent them or you watch them on your "rented" cable/satellite box? That's CRAZY (according to you) since you most certainly can buy DVDs and if you can OWN, you shouldn't rent. This is your logic, not mine. So why don't you buy DVD movies?

I'm going to guess it is because spending $30/months to watch a sampling of movies (either by renting or through cable/satellite) is preferable to taking that $30 and buying only 2 movies. So is it that inconceivable to you that some other people may prefer to spend $15/month in order to listen to a sampling of music instead of taking that $15 and buying only 2 CDs? You simply can't understand the logic?

If person X has decided that they will spend $15/month for the rest of their lives on music (they always want to listen to the latest and greatest), they would actually be fools to buy CDs. That $15/month gives them access not only to all of their old music (just like buying CDs does) but also gives them access to all the new music. Spending that $15 on 2 CDs, however, gives them access to only a very small amount of new music.

Keep in mind when I say this that I'm probably much like you: I rent movies and buy CDs but at least I can understand the attraction of a subscription model. Why can't you? You say it is all about you but to the people who prefer to subscribe, can't it also be all about them? You buy your music from iTunes, they rent their music from Rhapsody. Everyone should be happy yet you and dave seem to be angry. Why?
