Where do we lay the blame?
Doctors have to spend years in residence, lawyers have to do articles, policemen get partners.

In all of these certified vocations, there is some kind of on the job training, or people start at the bottom and work their way up. In the IT field things tend to be a bit different.

Getting someone to take on an inexperienced, albeit certified, IT professional is extremely difficult. IT certifications are also so numerous and specific that it becomes almost impossible to determine when someone was incompetent and when they were just not properly qualified.

Often IT professionals are asked to troubleshoot or look at situations they may not be qualified to deal with, but because they have picked up a bit of knowledge in the field, they are expected to pick up the slack.

Or company's who do not wish to pay for extra resources employ a junior IT professional and expect that person perform complex tasks.

When a project fails under these circumstances, who's fault is it?

And does my aunt get to sue me for malpractice when her PC breaks after she begged me to come take a look at it simply because I know how to use Photoshop?
