bloggers vs journalists
You've hit upon something I wish a lot more people would understand - just because someone sets up a blog and calls themselves a "reporter" doesn't make it so. When you write for a local community newspaper, you're held to certain standards (and not just the ability to spell correctly). You have to gather legitimate quotes and cooborate information. If you can't, it's not 'news'. Bloggers have no such obligation.

The biggest reason for laws protecting ISPs from the libelous behavior of their users is becuase ISPs know many bloggers who consider themselves "community journalists" are constantly flirting with being sued, even if they're not aware of it themselves.
