Is paper dying, or is it growing....
.... First, think of the advantages of paper. As someone said, imagine if it was invented today.

Advantages of technology:
cheap
light weight and portable
lasts essentially forever
requires no batteries
almost fully recyclable

I don't see many people reading their laptop on a subway.

Second, I don't think our current technology is creating a paperless society, I think it is creating MORE PAPER. That's right... MORE.
Walk in to your local store, or pharmacy. 20 years ago I received a little receipt, 5 inches long. Now if I buy ONE think with my savings card, you get a receipt 2 feet long with coupons. Pick up a prescription; used to be a pill bottle in a bag, now it comes with friggin' booklet of information.... every time. Look at how many printers are hooked up to all those computers. Hell, people even print out emails, news stories, pictures. I won't even bring up the paper records that various people and companies must keep. All growing greater in volume from the greater interactions through technology.

Lastly, if the internet shuts down all the small newspapers, whose going to hire the reports to report the news; especially local news. (and please don't say bloggers; while I like bloggers, I'd rather get news from professional reports in a consistent, and 'unbiased' manner.)
