One thing that nobody is mentioning here. If an offender is on MySpace using their OWN name (which is what would be in the database), what are they doing wrong?

I agree that if an offender is masquerading as a kid that there is a problem. But how do we find these offenders? THAT is the problem.

The idea of the database is NOT a solution. It is just a political item to trick the ignorant public into thinking that the politicians (read AGs) are doing something. These databases are compiled by what the OFFENDER tells the BCA, and are only verified (in my state at least) by a letter sent to the main address that needs to be returned. What a joke. And, as I said above, what are they doing wrong if they are using their own name and age? I agree that there is a lawsuit just waiting to happen here.

I am an unofficial ALCU and EFF member, and I don't believe in illegal searches (or legal ones with illegal laws) either. So that is not a solution. I am not sure anybody has a solution. Maybe get parents to take reasonability and check what their kids are doing online.
