Do you think Verizon should have to pay millions of dollars for every user who subscribes to their DSL service and then uses a P2P network to illegally download music? Do you think Comcast should have to pay millions of dollars for every user who subscribes to their cable internet service and uploads an illegal video to YouTube? Do you believe that MSN should have to pay millions of dollars for every user who uses their web hosting services and puts up an infringing image on their personal web site?

No? Then perhaps you understand why safe harbor is an important thing.
