US Citizenship and Slander
In Europe, the population expects government to protect them.

In the great USA, we do not expect government to protect us. We expect to protect ourselves from government. Our way is better.

Our way provides for dealing with corporate skalawags who have gotten their good fellows or themselves into decision making rolls within our governments.

We can say almost anything about public figures with out fear of being dragged into court and that includes what may appear to be outrageous lies.

We deal with this by citizen word of mouth. The government is not expected to identify the dishonest. We citizens instead are expected to do so and we are expected to spread the word through the press and Web 2.0.

This is not really whistle blowing. It is protecting ourselves in ways that would be called slander in Europe. But in Europe, government actually protects consumers by setting standards and enforcing them.

I doubt additional laws are needed to protect bloggers. As long as real names are used, existing laws involving harassment are likely enough.
