Shouldn't the work be verified BEFORE being placed in the public space? I mean, this puts the onus on the copyright holder being informed and taking action to stop Youtube. It should be the other way around...youtube should not be able to post content UNTIL the copyright holder has given permission.
Just because a technology exists that makes it easy, does not make it right. Google needed to develop a method of filtering the files. If they can't, then perhaps it's either negligence or stupidity, b ut having the onus on the copyright holders to protect their content is silly. Who's going to pay to have someone monitor and inform you of copyrighted files? This is NOT something new and previous cases like Napster have already set precedent...the copyright holder has the rights by default. The burden is on Google. - Posted by: lawryll@...
