Owe tax? Don't e-file w/Intuit
Intuit charges $17 to e-file a return thru Turbo Tax (a pretty stiff fee, I think). If you owe taxes and want to pay electronically with your e-filing, Intuit forwards that task to an outfit called officialpayments.com which slaps its own fee (2.5% of tax owed) onto the transaction. (I guess the more tax you owe, the more bandwidth officialpayment.com needs to handle the transaction ;->). Suddenly, an irritatingly high fee becomes an annoyingly high fee.

E-filing may be convenient for some (unless Intuit's servers melt), but it sure isn't affordable for many. Adding that (those) premiums is not a great way to nurture a filing method that has the potential to save the government heaps of money at it's IRS Service Centers.
