I was able to transmit around 9:10 PM last night
after about a dozen attempts. Fortunately I had the extension forms printed and ready to mail just in case, and there is a post office about 15 minutes away that doesn't close until midnight on tax day, plus since I was affected by the Nor'easter (power outage) I could have used the 48 hour extension to my advantage if it came down to it. But I'll tell you what, I paid for TurboTax to avoid a hassle, and I got more of a hassle through TurboTax than if I had done the taxes myself and used a free service to eFile. Next year I think I'll give one of the free services a try and save a few bucks.

Here's another thing. I used the online service (really the only option if you're like me and insist on using Linux-compatible solutions), meaning my tax info was already being stored on their servers. Once I hit the transmit button, why did I have to keep logging back in and going through a 12 page (or so) transmit process after each failed attempt? I shouldn't even have to have a one page process. Since my info is already on the server, the server should keep retrying for me until it succeeds.
