I'd be curious to see what they do
Seeing as you pointed out the P2P couldn't do it why can Google. The way I see it either Google or any of the P2P people were or are lying.

Now here's the problem as I see. Everything on YouTube is protected by copyright. That means the person posting must have authorization to post on YouTube. Simple thing if you are the copyright holder but how does Google know if you are the copyright holder? How does Google know if you are authorized to post. How does Google know if authorization is even required as there are many execptions that do not require authorization from the copyright holder. How does Google filter? Who's copyright does Google enforce vs who's do they not enforce?

I just don't see how this can be done with out changing YouTube into system where one must present thier copyright authoriztion before posting or prove that the post falls into one of the many exception under copyright law. Now this actually doesn't sound like a bad thing to me. If I take a video clip of me skiing and I want to post I'm the copyright hold and I can authorize. If I want to make a parody of a video clip I should be able to show that it is a parody and be able to post. If want to post video clip from the music video channel then I should be denied unless I can show authorization from the copyright holder.

This would work with P2P too.
