No, they absolutely should have
No matter how you want to spin it, these kids can and should be suspended for ANY kind of criminal behavior on or off school property, and it doesn't matter whether it was done with or on school property. And yes, slander liable, and defamation are all illegal, and if someone doesn't understand the seriousnous of what these kids did, then that someone needs their @ss beat also.

And, add to that the fact that these students were deliberately undermining the principal's authority, the suspension is a no brainer.

Let's not mentally screw up any more kids by being a soft pansy and treating them with kid gloves. Do everyone a favor, suspend them, beat their @sses, and ground them for a month. This lesson has to be learned, and remembered.
