MS is both trusted and distrusted by most
MS is the biggest and most used and they are the most trusted by some and distrusted by others. It comes down to experiences and who has had good or bad experiences so it's an individual kind of catch 22 much like the dog who bites some and friendly to others.
Personally, I think MS makes a lot of good software, contributed heavily to the development of other OS's and visa versa. One has to look at the entire PC industry and all the developers of various OS's. They contribute to each other by improving drivers, security, hardware and communications. Remember how Windows became a graphical interface and others eventually followed suit ? The same thing happened when MS saw how Linux was protecting their system files by forcing administrative log on to the user. My point is we will all buy, use and do whatever we believe to be the right PC with the right software and hardware for us. I strongly doubt any OS that is out there now will lose all of it's users due to MS, Linux, Unix or Mac.
