couldn't agree with you more...
I couldn't agree with you more. The general population just wants to get their work done - and is not fascinated in taking MS down. Even though I use Windows, I also agree that they could care less what operating system they use as long as 1) it's easy, and 2) that they are using "what everyone else is using" (for compatibility).

So on the WebOS topic, the latency will always be an issue. Ask yourself if you'd want to spend 8 hours with Outlook or 8 hours with Webmail-Outlook (fill in your own product there...you get the idea.)

Until there is fiber-optic to most communities (to simulate the speed of a local network), the WebOS latency will always be a pipe dream for anything but periodic "login...do some work...logout" scenarios.

The thing i've learned most in life is that Black or White options are rarely the best choice...it's almost inevitably some gray in between that works the best. That said, realistically the most success will come from "smart-client" desktop apps. That have the speed of the local cpu/network, but can "pull-down" live data on demand, and also work offline should the internet connection fail. It's a blend of Desktop and Web and will likely prevail for any business scenario.

So yes, the WebOS is a geek's pipe dream (for now).
