Rightt idea, poor analogy

GotoMyPC, VMWare, etc are great apps/systems/whatever, but are nowhere near the kind of efficiency one saw w/ old CICS apps, bec CICS was char-based+block-oriented, simple displays. Less than 32KB per transaction, over coax bet smart devices, making screen updates almost instantaneous.

End-node (user) PCs are 100x smarter and more powerful than old IBM m/f comm boxes, but those old IBM terminals/controllers were optimized for their mission. On the PC side, AJAX (and comparable facils) is/are far from optimized for the new mission.

To me, the key is the opportune developer/evangelist (or a team) that implements the ciritical breakthru and demonstrates it. Then sells it ! By selling, I mean get people to get on the bandwagon (maybe this indiv/team delivers an OOS solution.) All of the underlying tech is here at our fingertips, but no one has delivered a solution for wide-scale deployment. There are isolated "islands", where success stories are flourishing, but we never hear about them bec those folks aren't trying to market/sell what they've accomplished.

All great designs are part serendipitous, the opportune meeting of great ideas+execution+timing+visibility....
