Reality hasn't changed
Web OS is a silly idea at our current level of networking sophistication.

1) Pure web app interfaces suck. Period.

2) Addressing #1 with browswer scripting/widgets/etc defeats the purpose of web-based apps.

3) Lose connectivity, you lose your computer till connectivity is restored. And let's face it, the hysteria of users who lose connectivity to their apps for a mere 4 hours or so borders on the psychotic.

4) Loss of control over the data. If it's stored on someone else's machine somewhere on the net and a hacker compromises them, it's game over.

5) Related to #4 having your data outside your physical control invites insider attacks from *2* sources--at least. Your employees and your hosting company's employees. Double jeopardy there...

Quit looking at the benefits (if any?). Start looking at the downsides.
