Regardng Bandwidth
You need not look but to AT&T's CICS application to see that resolution and graphics need not be a problem. CICS was developed by IBM for AT&T and to make it a language called C was developed. CICS stands for Customer Information Control System.

It made use of something called Basic Mapping Support? to allow different terminal types with different resolution capabilities to display the same data.

Using an example from today, say you wanted to display data on a cell phone device and on a full screen computer monitor. You would have two maps of the data display, one for the phone and one for the computer monitor. The application CICS would determine which device you were using and format the display appropriately.

The beauty of CICS is that it had to work with the most minimal of bandwidth. So what was done was that data was tagged. When data was modified the modified data tag would clew the application to the fact that data needed to be retransmitted and only that modified data would be retransmitted. None of the data already displayed was. Hence once the initial display was loaded very little band width was needed for thousands of connections.

If you try out Gotomypc or Vmware you will note that something similar to CICS is happening. Many of us believe that applications run faster under Gotomypc or Vmware than they do natively on the computers hosting the application.

My conclusion is that Gotomypc and Vmware do not transmit a screen full of data on each refresh but rather only the data that has changed - like CICS.
