Professional Journalist?
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. "

I don't see anything in the First Amendment that said anything about having to be a "Professional" anything. It specifically states "or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press;". Now there have been many rulings as to what that means. I do know that a journalist (a reporter or anyone who can make the claim that they are engaged in delivering items of news) does not have to divulge sources of information. But, the question as to video footage (or pictures, artist's renderings, or a cartoon), get the same coverage??? I don't know. They (the government) may not stop (abridge) you from publishing the item, unless there is a proven compelling reason not allow the publishing (matter of National Security), however, I do believe that they can compel you to give them a copy, if there has been a crime committed.

On that note, what was he attempting to protect???? Unless the person in question (fire bombing the cop car) was his contact, and he felt that he needed to protect that relationship. Again ? don't know. Only he know what and why he was trying to protect.
