hmmmmm
The biggest problem with "freedom of speech" and/or "freedom of the press" is that nobody takes responsibility.
It doesn't seem that the govt is restricting rights here, it seems that Mr Wolfe had material that could help identify the perpetrator of a crime. On those grounds he should be responsible and pass whatever information over to the authorities. That way the perp will not be able to commit this crime again. How would you feel if your neighbour knew who had broken into your house and stolen everything yet would not talk quoting "freedom of speech"?
John E Wahd, a typical American response to a complicated issue. We don't take responsibility for our actions here in the west, and we put individual "rights" before the good of society. In China, where I have lived for many years, the good of society is put first, over the rights of the individual. I think overall it's a better way. I by no means believe that the Chinese have got the balance right, but I think it is indeed a fairer balance. That way you must take responsibility for your actions. Failure to take that responsibility means that people believe they can get away with everything, and if something goes wrong at all and the results of those actions are less than desirable, then it must be someone else's fault and so you end up with frivolous court cases such as those outlined in the Stella Awards.
