Social justice, not money, is the goal.
What makes Microsoft's products undesirable is not only price and lack of quality; its business model of giving no choice is what matters. There is nothing wrong about paying for music or movies if one could afford it and we had the comfort of knowing that the creators and interpreters were being duly rewarded. I would pay a reasonable price for food items of reasonable quality if I had the comfort of knowing that rural communities were paid their due share to keep producing the best they can.
I believe that the majority of people in this world think along these lines. You see people behaving in a rather chaotic way because they see government members lying unashamedly, monopolistic companies stealing legally, and they find no role models for their children any more. The patent and copyright laws were created to foster creativity and reward the better citizens, not to support social injustice.
It is just a tiny minority that practices veiled government-blessed crimes every single day. If we find a legal way to prevent such deviated behavior, then the moral confusion and chaos will be put to rest. People want to have freedom of choice and be happy with the decisions they make every day.
Those who exploit the people to make money do so, on the belief they will be happier by having more money, but don't care that they make the majority unhappy in the process.
Otherwise, only a minority will make sacrifices and practice boycott in order to live a decent life. That is what leads people like me to run Linux on my computer, write and work agains Microsoft within all my power, and anxiously wait for something to happen to society in the right direction. I have not bought music or movies, and not downloaded bittorrent files either. If music and movies were not encumbered with DRM, I would buy them happily. Therefore, deep down, all want to be happy, but choose different ways to attain the goal.
