Too soon to say Google's money was wasted

First, do you really think this move by the networks would have ever happened with pressure from initiatives like YouTube and Apple TV?

And as for Google wasting $1,65B, don't be so quick to judge Google's YouTube investment wasted. Doesn't anyone remember the short-sighted chastisements of Time/Warner's purchase of AOL as a "disaster," and that AOL was valued at $0 at one point after their purchase by Time/Warner?

Hmmm. I bet none of the Time/Warner haters would value AOL as worthless right about now.

The fortunes of companies playing web angles will career madly as a natural course of trying to ride the chaos wave leading the fundamental transformation of our economy and society, being acted out now. Even with the danger of sudden reversals genrating headlines and market fluctuations, the game will belong to those who master the art of the long view, while exercising aggressive agility...

BTW - A number of folks make daily use of many of Google's browser based productivity apps, like calendar, docs & spreadsheets, notebook - and innovations, like Google Base are potentially ground-breaking. So, not every move they have made has been so questionable as the price paid for YouTube. Google could have done a better job of risk assessment during their consideration of the YouTube acquisition, though the YouTube move is far from over (unless Google decides to fall on its sword). But, then, hindsight is always 20-20.
