Another government soution, huh?

If it works as well as the "Can Spam Act" that was touted as the solution to the Spam problem by Schumer et. al., then watch out. Before the ink on the law is dry, spyware purveyors will figure out a way to come up with even nastier code than anything out there now, and yet be in full compliance with the law.

Besides, a lot of this garbage comes from overseas, particularly China, North Korea, and the former Soviet Blok. In fact, I've found that a lot of it reports to computers whose IP's are registered to K-12 schools in China. Does the Congress think that overseas spyware distributors will be in the least bit deterred by new U.S. laws?

A better solution might be to track down the authors and break their fingers. But that, unfortunately, would be illegal. As for the Congress, all I ask is that they please don't do us any favors. They'll only make things worse. They don't know anything about technology and the best thing they could do would be to keep their hands off of it.
