In other words, Viacom is attempting to demand that YouTube be required, presumably at its own expense, to protect Viacom's interests. Not only is this impossible--how in the world is YouTube supposed to be able to tell if any particular bit of video is copyrighted?--it's ridiculous. If Viacom wants YouTube to remove a particular clip, the burden is, or at least ought to be, on Viacom to prove, not just assert, that the clip is in fact copyrighted.

Even American jurisprudence, as asinine as it sometimes is, cannot reasonably demand the unreasonable.
