Satellite radio is different from both terrestrial and internet.

Terrestrial radio content providers cannot follow you from state to state, you have to keep switching stations and even then your not guaranteed to get the same type of content you used to listening to. Each radio station is geared towards its local population. Second, terrestrial radio stations have ads and we don?t pay to listen to them.

Internet radio is a whole other beast. Unless you pay for an internet connection in your car which isn?t available nationwide, you cant get it in your car. Also, some internet radio stations make you pay for their services, some don?t and even then your still dependent on an internet connection which you are not for satellite or terrestrial radio. This means you buy extra services and equipment to listen to internet radio.

So no, this merger should not be allowed and they should be considered a separate market.

Now, as to why terrestrial radio is fighting the merger, i dont know why. Probably the same reason the cable companies fought the satellite companies, because they could. They compete, but not on a scale that matters much.
