- The Reality of Second Life
-
What Linden Labs isn't talking about are the continual problems in Second Life - many of them created by a lack of control in their own source code.
Yes - a significant number of residents are building and creating and involved in the economy. These same residents face having their creations broken by the next "update" because code structure gets changed without notice, or rules about distance, or even simple things like a call to stop particles suddenly becomes invalid.
Linden Labs needs to fix the on-going issues; inability to Teleport; Lag; Disappearing Inventory of Residents; all those things that make regular time spent in Second Life frustrating and difficult for anyone attempting to explore, run a business, or just enjoy the experience.
Linden Labs needs to get control of it's source code so that they don't introduce show-stopping bugs that make it difficult to navigate, build or enjoy the Second Life experience.
If Linden Labs makes a committment to excellence, a committment to the existing users that they'll fix the things they break in updates, and follows through on that committment, then Second Life might become a viable place to truly run a business.
If Linden Labs continues down their existing course of introducing updates that break existing features, make it difficult to navigate, build, create, or just exist in Second Life, then the system is doomed to failure.
We've all tried to get this point across to the Linden Lab Management team, to no avail. Perhaps it's time they start to see these complaints printed in the industry's publications. - Posted by: pup witherspoon Posted on: 02/21/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
