70 non-infringers impacted
The story actually states that Viacom admits it pulled around 70 videos that contained non-infringing content. Even pulling one non-infringing video is one too many especially when the non-infringing content owner has no immediate recourse or a way to re-post their content right away. It also stains the reputations of the non-infringers who may be trying to attract attention and funding. Viacom went way too far. They have no right to infringe upon anybody's right to post their own content. Do it right or don't do it at all. I've basically stopped buying movies and CDs because of stupid crap like this. My money only goes to independent artists because at least I can be assured that the artist gets the money and not these consumer and artist-unfriendly companies. Things will only change when consumers vote with their hard-earned $$$.
