Lawful Extortion
There seems to be this idea out there that companies like Google are getting a free ride over other peoples wires. This to me is a strange notion. Google pays its service provider for bandwidth just like any other company. I pay my service provider for bandwidth so that I can view content from any server that gives me such rights. If I choose to use the bandwidth that I am paying for to visit Google?s site, that is my right. Why should my ISP have the right to slow my access to sites that I choose to visit?

If sites like Google are hogging other ISP?s bandwidth, it is only because their customers choose to go there. While in reality it is not quite that simple because packets get passed from one server to another over many networks to reach their destinations, still the basic idea remains true. Google, Ebay, Amazon and other successful companies are paying for their bandwidth just like I am paying for my bandwidth. It seems to me that the Major ISPs? are objecting because some of the companies? sites are in such demand that they are able to utilize all the bandwidth they are paying for most of the time.
