Laws Governing Minors...
You hit upon an entire underlying issue, which is that our laws in America don't deal with juveniles consistently. On one hand, we tell the sixteen year old she's permitted to have sex, but then we tell that same girl (in some states) she's not allowed to procure contraception or an abortion without parental consent. Make up your mind, is she an adult responsible for making decisions involving her own body or not?

As someone else pointed out, there's a gender double standard regarding sexual behavior. The teen boy is a 'stud' for landing the hot teacher while the teen girl is 'exploited'. Is either completely true?

Unfortunately in this case, it's the parents that blew the proverbial whistle. I'd like to think the police & prosecutor (even in N. Florida) have better things to do than this. I have no idea what the parents' hoped to achieve, but I'm sure a ten-thousand dollar legal bill wasn't part of it.
